Ph.D.
student attended 2013 National Cell Congress (Post on May
2, 2013)
Cong-Cong Hou, the Ph.D. student
from the Sperm Laboratory, Zhejiang University, attended the 2013
National Congress of Chinese Society for Cell Biology which was held in
Wuhan City, China, during April 19-21, 2013. Ms. Hou introduced her
study on the new cytoskeletal structure "acroframosome (AFS)" in a
caridean shrimp to the congress by a poster. The title of her poster is
"Acroframosome (AFS)-dependent kinesin motor KIFC1 facilitated acrosomal
biogenesis during spermatogenesis in the caridean shrimp Exopalaemon
modestus".
Happy
Chinese Little Dragon Year, and Happy 2013!
The Sperm Laboratory hopes all
the lab members and lab alumni have a Happy Chinese New Year! We also
hope all of our national and international collaborator have a Happy New
Chinese Little Dragon Year! We wish to bless all those visitors who
visited our website share our happiness and have a happy new year too.
The growth of the Sperm Laboratory depends on your strong support and
contribution. Thank you all.
Journal
club on Oct. 26, 2012.
Ms. Jia-Min
JIN presented at the Journal Club on Oct. 26, 2012. Her
topic is about hormonal regulation of spermatogenesis, the main content
is from a review article
which was published in the journal "Reproduction, Fertility and
Development". Article title and related information are as
follows: Hormonal regulation of spermatogenesis:
insights from constructing genetic models, 2011, 23, 507–519, by D. J.
Handelsman from ANZAC Research Institute, University of Sydney, Sydney,
NSW 2139, Australia. This journal club was presented in
English. Location: 123 Conference Room, Life Science Building, ZJU. Time:
18:30-20:00.
Group
meeting on Oct. 12, 2012.
Oct. 12, 2012, at our group meeting, Dr. Yang reported the
recent progress of the sperm laboratory. In the past one week, the
manuscript which discussed the function of p53 during spermatogenesis in
Chinese mitten crab was accepted by the journal "Molecular Biology
Rreports". There are another three manuscripts were considered by the
editor and those manuscripts are under revising now. New research tasks
was assigned to the new comers (Ms. Rui Jiang and Ms. Jia-Min Jin). Ms.
Jiang will investigate the programmed cell death during spermatogenesis,
and Ms. Jin will investigate the function of hormone and its gene
regulation during spermatogenesis.
Long holiday
(Post on Oct. 1, 2012)
We have a long holiday from September 30 until October 7 2012.
During this holiday, we have Chinese Traditional Mid-Autumn Festival
(Sep. 30) as well as the National Day (Oct. 1). The Sperm Laboratory

At our group meeting on 28 Sep., 2012,
Yang LU and
Zhen-Yu SHE reported their data which were collected in
September 2012. Ms.
Mei LIU and
Cong-Cong HOU also reported their data briefly. Mr.
Yi-Dong WANG reported his literature review work at the meeting. The
title of Mr. WANG's presentation is "The composition of oviduct fluid
and its biological effects". This presentation was presented in English.
Location: 123 Conference Room, Life Science Building, ZJU. Time:

Ms. Yi-Ni Ke reported her work in
University of
Illinois
in the Summer
(Post on Sep. 23, 2012)
On 21 Sep., 2012, Ms.
Yi-Ni Ke reported her research work which was conducted during her
visit to Department of Animal Sciences, University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), Urbana, USA. The title of her report is
"Hypoxia induces differences in uterine leiomyoma cells", it was
presented in English. Ms. Ke was involved in a training program, so she
went to UIUC as a visiting student from June 24, 2012 until Aug. 06,
2012. She joined Dr. Romana Nowak's reproductive laboratory at UIUC. Her
research work was supervised by Dr. Andrea Braundmeier during the
training program. At Friday's group meeting, after reporting her
research work in UIUC, Ms. Ke introduced her campus life as well as her
laboratory life in Illinois. The "Summer @ UIUC" had given Ms. Ke a deep
impression. Ms. Ke expressed her appreciation to Dr. Romana Nowak and
her research group for their assistance with her training project. She
is grateful to Dr. Andrea Braundmeier for her supervision and
consideration during the training program.
